Elaine is ABDO’s Head of Professional Services and International Development and Director of Development for International Opticians Association (IOA) whose remit is to “enhance and develop the optical profession around the world”.
She has 35 years’ experience of lecturing internationally with a special interest in presbyopia and related subjects. She conceived and set up Varilux University in 1998, the first European Continuing Education Centre dedicated to Presbyopia and the aging eye. She has published numerous articles, a book in Chinese (co-written with Prof. Irvin M. Borish) and a number of educational resources.
She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, Fellow of the European Academy of Optometry and Optics (EAOO) and Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Spectacle Makers. She sits on ECOO’s Executive (European Council of Optometry and Optics) and is a Trustee of the European Academy of Optometry and Optics (EAOO).
